AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

For Mexico, Violence Is Nothing New...Part Of The Culture...Has Been for 100 Years...

By EDUARDO PAZ-MARTINEZ
Editor-In-Chief

HARLINGEN, Texas - When I lived in Mexico City while writing for The Houston Post, one of my favorire early-morning stops was a corner table at the La Habana Cafe near the country's government complex. Breakfast came fast in the crowded joint. Waitresses moved like butter between the tables and the chatter seemed as if made noisier by the emotional strength of the conversations.

Talk of bad politics took centerstage. Everybody had their say, in harsh words and harsher gestures. Mexico was going down the tubes because of corruption at the rich national oil company, PEMEX. Tourism was sinking. Americans no longer traveled to the old, colonial towns like Taxco and San Miguel de Allende. Cops were taking bribes and travelers on Mexican highways were being robbed. Something was up.

The Mexican president at the time went on a public relations campaign that talked of hiring better-educated police officers, fighting the slumping economy so that Mexicans could have good jobs and then launching the Green Angels to aid anyone needing help on the country's roads, tourists especially.

That was years ago, the mid-1980s.

Much has and hasn't changed for the Aztec Nation.

Powerful drug cartels now run the entire country, allowing foreigners to label Mexico a narco-state. Blood runs like spoiled tamarindo in the streets and alleys of most Mexican communities. There is no law to speak of, Mexican President Felipe Calderon leaving the presidential palace only when he has to, and only in the company of a small, well-armed army of guards.

It is way past thinking about what happened to the once-tranquil land of tomorrow. Gone is the feeling that the criminals will be beaten. Too many heads have literally rolled and too many people have made too much money to ever turn back.

The discovery of a mass grave in the dusty Tamaulipas town of San Fernando didn't even faze those who heard about it this past weekend. It was just the latest creative and cruel barbaric act by the usual barbarians. Mexico cannot seem to solve its problems, and some say it just doesn't have the want-to. It is paralyzed by its own choosing; it is now a country at the mercy of its criminals.

Why should we care?

Perhaps it's time to say we don't. Let Mexicans talk and argue about their mess all they want. The cafes are always open and the coffee is somewhat okay...

That is one of her tenants, he to has a confict of interest complaint filed against him.
Nick is a big supporter of Marra. Last week at the commission meeting, the commissioner was all smiles.

The article sounds like anytown usa, well cartels here in the us, hide under the radar.
But things are just as bad, Conrado Cantu, Judge Limas, a slew of ICE people getting caught, helping drug dealers.
I like Mexico, but right now, I am staying put.

The Harlingen Hemorrhoid Tony Chapa is again attacking the Trib. You're right, he's like shit. Must be feeling a little envious. Short people can never get over it. LOL!!!

Korry Marra, well the word around town, is that Louis Saenz is going to prosecute. Or at least that was the coffee shop talk last Friday.
Unless they find a friendly Judge from out of town, who might drop the charges.

Tonie Chapete, is all f**^%ed up. He gets about 24 comments in 3 days and he is bragging.
Viejo cara de plantilla, la chinche eres tu. You are trying to get comments cause your blog is dead, cabron.
As for my good man, Jerry Deal, well what can Jerry say about sand lot baseball, he works for the wings, he has to promote them. Stay in Course mr.editor.

Editors note, look the Valley if full of Jaibas, people say things to discredit other people, it is a shame, how some low life can resort to name calling.
Just ignore the Sons of Bi#$*es, if name calling is all they have, you guys have nothing. Viejo sonso. Tonie Chapetengo, el faldillon. hahaha.

Chapete, writes a 4 sentence paragraph and then writes 5 comments. Estas de dar lastima, como dijo el otro anon, Faldillon, le corrio y se escondio abajo the de las falda de la chola.

Mr. Editor, journalist disgaree on many things. You presented a point of view, Jerry presents another view, and we live it at that.
However, lets be mindfull, this league has not made money, it can't even pay the light bill. The Harlingen Baseball field belongs to the tax-payers. From what I gather, not very good ones, when they owe and don't pay.
Jerry, who is going to stay in Harlingen to watch the Whitewings play, when not even the locals support them.

Dwarf, wants peace, well you started the name calling, and we the bloggers at the Trib, are not going to let you smear people the way you do with your nasty ass comments, faldillas.

I think the wings average about 700 to 900 people, at one time they reported they needed at least 1500 to break even, they charge $5.00 and $6.00 for reserve or box seats.
I think, they own, or operate the concession stand, something like that.
It has been about 3 years that I haven't gone to a game. I might go to one or two this year.

Mr. Editor, {Editors note] you can always find seats, half of the stadium is almost empty. Even the bucket seat area is never full.
They sell candy, fajita tacos, beer, cokes, hot dogs, water, and you name it.
Mr. Deal, I think works or use to work for the league at one time.
But you are right, some of the players, aren't really that good.

"Fiesta in San Antonio," side bar, man, lots of pretty women in that town. I was up there during the week-end. At the Market, plenty of beer and food, women in shorts all over the place. You can gain 10 lbs in a day if you aren't careful.

ALL:...Tony Chapa is no competition for us. His skills are elementary and pedestrian. He can't write or spell or offer anything of substance. We wish him the best, cause we know that he can only do what he can do, and that is to offer mediocre stuff. Blogger Jerry Deal knows better. Why he throws in sick references to me possibly being Gay is easily deciphered. He had no reason to keep spreading vicious lies, but he did it. We are aware that his comments are down, so maybe that's what that's about too. It's too bad. Blogs should not be about comments, but about the material they offer. But they've been told that before... - Editor

Deal resorting to personal attacks is a little beneath you. You are beggining to sound like a use car salesman selling minor league baseball.
Stick to city issues.

Good reading on the Mexico story. it's getting old. You are right. Tony Chapa, the so-caled human hemorroid, is irrelevant. He posts and story and then he and no one else comments. Puro idiota ese vato chaparro. Ponte panatalones, puto! leave the news to the pros. LOL!!!

Well, I don't know why anyone hasn't asked me as to the editor's sexual orientation because he happens to be sleeping in my bed every night but if anyone seriously needs proof, I'd just have to state that they need to pay a little more attention to their own sex life because watching someone else's is not the most healthy thing to be doing. The people who throw accusations around tend to be in conflict themselves, I think. Look at Jake, he is always using the Gay card and yet he is the one fantasizing about homosexual rape all the time. Sounds pretty latent to me (better look that one up Jake, I have a feeling you're going to be hearing it more and more). As far as Chapa is concerned, he seems to get these man-crushes on people that he looks up to (now let me see, who doesn't he look up to) and when they don't return his fawning adoration, he gets his panties all in a twist. I'd tell him to grow UP already but I'm afraid it's a lost cause. Last, but not least, let me say that I think a lot of people trying to hang a gay label on the editor, do so because they can't fault him on his writing but they take his criticisms personally and try to strike a low blow because they haven't got the balls to take him on at his level (interesting mental picture of Chapa reaching over his head just trying to strike a low blow).

Johnny Joe said...

Chapa has no balls. he's like the fat nerd in high school you had to kick in the ass to get him away from you. Pendejo, largate! No one wants you here, dwarf.

I agree with with every comment from Anons. One of Chapis bloggers asked for restraint. Chapis is blamming the editor of the Trib, blame, blame, aste hombrecito, cabron.

Ruben said...

What we know about Tony Chapa is that he is like a piece of gum. he wants to belong to the gang but the gang tells him he's too stupid. It's a girl thing for sure. Chapete needs men I guess. how else do you explain it? He also likes to be whipped by commenters. All of it smells like someone is feminine. Pobre chapaneco. He adores the editor of The Tribune and can't stand that he is ignored like the ugly girl in junior high.

Mr. Clean said...

Chapaneco likes to start controversy, he seeks attention, he knows no one in Harlingen likes his ass.
He quit going to city commission meetings, because he is afraid the dawg may kick is dwarfy ass, and the policeman at the door won't intervene.
Oh, I forgot, he can't drive, que se me ase, que eres de los atros, flor de mayo.

Anonymous said...

I used to know a guy like Chapa in elementary school. he always brough candy for the other guys to make himself one of the gang. But everybody threw it back in his face. that's Tony Chapa, a wannabe. Ya parale, dwarf. You're making a fool of yourself and your family. LOL!!!

Mike/Harlingen said...

Chapa was a pachuco is what they say. Hey, I've seen his wife and she is not cute. Poor guy. maybe that's why he wants to act tough and all. Dwarf, you need to get a job. Being unemployed is what yur problem is. Too much time at the computer, vato. you're McDonalds material! LOL!!!

Cable Guy said...

Jerry Deal is wrong about RGV Whitewings manager Eddie Dennis playing in the major leagues. I found this online about the team's player tryouts - 'Eddie was a coach in the Blue Jays organization and has a World Series championship ring as a result of his coaching in the Blue Jays minor league system.' He NEVER played in a world series. They give him a ring for coaching in the minor leagues! Deal knows it but doesn't clarify it. He should do that before jumoing on The Tribune.

Anonymous said...

Cable man, you Jerry Deal is being deceptive??? Man, what is this world coming down to.
Jerry, man you're to damn old to be playing games with your bloggers.
Eddie Dennis, might be a good minor league coach, but that is it. And the league he is coaching is one step away, from locals that play hard ball on Sundays a local parks, to sandlot ball, ball baby, thats it.

Brown Town Man said...

Playing games with bloggers, Anon, Jerry is old 79 close to 80, half of the time he doesn't know what he is talking about.
Eddie Dennis is no big time coach, otherwise, he wouldn't be here.
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry, fibbing is a no no, bro.

Jerry deal may be old but he's still around. Yes, he should be honest about the Whitewings and tell it like it is. BrownTown man is absolutely right! If Eddie Dennis was good enough he'd be coaching in the majors. But it's okay. Deal you should apologize to the editor. The Tribune got it right. Zat all I know, bro.

I did not get the impression that Deal was trying to insult you. I read his comments and felt he was defending you against the insults flung at you by the hateful bloggers at Chapa’s piece of crap. Deal did say you are a respected professional journalist. It is true that Deal has a lot of fluff about the Whitewings, but then again he is being paid by the Whitewings. Consider his baseball reports as paid editorials or advertisements.

You mean Chapaneco's poor wife works long hours every day hile he's home typing that useless crap on his Blog 24/7? That dwarf is not a Man. Being unemployed is bad enough for that guy. he has no shame? knowing that, only a moron would follow his blog!
