By RICARDO KLEMENTBROWNSVILLE, Texas - The entire police department has been placed on alert here following the city's fourth murder of the year. Antsy cops, fearing anyone in town could be the next victim, are executing a massive manhunt for 42-year-old Gilbert Garza.
Garza is alleged to have offed his wife's best friend late Sunday night.
Weekend cops arrived at a domestic violence incident at 28 East Cowen Terrace hours after Spain defeated the Netherlands at the World Cup to find an unidentified 46-year-old woman dead at the scene. Cops were mum about a motive or other killing details, however. The rub: It was impossible to know whether the dead woman and the man's wife were lovers, or whether the dead woman and the killer were involved in an affair. Cops worked the scene without comment. According to bystanders, nothing came from neighbors. And no one reported hearing wild screams, gunfire or a noisy picking roaring away.
Police nonetheless issued an arrest warrant for the shifty Garza, who is said to have split into the night and vanished in the Brownsville darkness. He remains on the lam...
