AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

It Begins Anew: The Year 2011 Has Dawned In All Its Spangled Glory...Hell-o, Old Friends...

By KERMIT PEREZ
Special to The Tribune

McALLEN, Texas - And so it begins. 2011, the Year of the Rabbit in the Chinese calendar, is underway, a wagonload of booze sailing down the city's plumbing, still more storming in a hundred-thousand party bellies. It's been a haul of sorts getting to this day, but it's here.

Plot your best yearlong journey, settle in for some good college football today, and enjoy the beginning of something new. For the most part, what you did in 2010 will stay in 2010 - falling-down partying included.

Celebrations ranged. Here, as in Gotham City, a stroke-of-midnight ball drop propelled booze-fueled residents into the New Year. It was a Moon Pie Drop in Mobile, Alabama and a giant Peach Drop in Atlanta. Perhaps next year, the City of Palms will go to a Tamale Drop, which would be more regionally appropriate.

But it's a new start time for personal renewal.

Make it a good year...

ANONYMOUSES: ...Thanks for the kind words. We're steering away from mentioning that Chapa loser around here. He can claim all he wants, but he's still a dud. The cream always rises to the top... - Editor

T/C is trying to stir controversy, him and his slave boy, Jaker, who now says they are the talk of the town.
Ken Benton, if you want to run for Mayor of Harlingen, you better get away from Toney's rag line blog.
mhns supported Juan Ortega for precinct 4, Cameron County, total votes 160. Nobody wanted him, I spoke to one of his frineds and he voted against him.
John Wood, for County Judge, he lost.
George Merril for Mayor of Harlingen and he lost. Okay the loser first supported one of his bloggers, than change his mind, for Merril.
Anyone he supports, is like the kiss of death.
Benton won't win, if myharlingennews supports him.

Kermit, don't forget to post a comment about Ms. Toni Chapa's funeral or burial. To bad, she had to go away during this happy days.

There is rumor going on that Juan Montoya is being released on Monday Jan. 3rd around midnight. I hope someone is waiting for him, if not the traffic at hi-way510 is. It is dangerous to walk around that hi-way. Specially at night. I want to wish him well. I am sure he will have plenty to write about.
Remember good people if you drink, please don't drive. Please, pretty please.

where will toni chapa be buried. in Mexico where she belongs?

No Toni Chapa is from Nicaragua, she should have been sent in a train cargero as they say. You know where cows, pigs and other items are packaged and sent.
Instead she was buried under cow chips, in a pasture where lost souls, end.
With music and all, Toni went in style.
