Editor-In-Chief
HARLINGEN, Texas - The war of words raging across the rolling geography here is pitting the old against the new, and, once more, residents and curious onlookers can only read and gauge, see and decide, feel and opine. It is a popular game in town, even more popular than Bingo.
So, just where does one go looking for news and information for the so-called Old Guard - a somewhat secretive group of phantom operatives reportedly keeping Harlingen down in the civic dumps? Here's where: MyLeaderNews.com. It is a website that portends something else, but clues indicating it rallies behind the Old Guard are all over its content.
Take for instance, its ongoing poll:
It asks: Do you believe the selection of Carlos Yerena as the new city manager was a good choice?
The results:
Yes
22.51%
No
37.07%
Unsure
40.43%
That is only a mere 23% in favor of Mr. Yerena, a man almost unanimously supported by the city's large Hispanic community. The other two numbers, votes cast by people not favoring Mr. Yerena, equal 77% - a whopping number that probably would be more foreboding if MyLeaderNews posted number of votes, rather than percentages.
It says this: The Old Guard reads MyLeaderNews.com.
And that says much about its editor, former Valley Morning Star honcho Jerry Deal, who would not necessarily enjoy being seen as a puppet of politicians and city leaders bent on keeping things as they are and have been for many of the years Harlingen has fallen from grace with success. It is, as they say in philosophy classes, something to think about.
It makes one wonder, sure. Is Jerry Deal now part of the clan of residents uninterested in change? Is he a mere shadow of the objective journalist he claims to be? Is he more attune to minor league baseball as shill for The Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings and the United Baseball League he represents than he is to the cacaphonous sounds of unrest moving across his hometown?
We can only wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder, wonder...

AS long as all Mexican - Americans stay Divided by the dominant Anglo - Saxons... They will always will be Afraid to raise and speak out their silenced Voices about Them and pretending that
" everything is fine" - out of Ignorance !!!
This has always been the American - Way Policy.. Just Look at this; The Hawaiin Islands, were ruled by their own Hawaiian Royalty, a " Guerrilla" put by the C.I.A. Now the Dole Family Owns most of Their Pineapple Islands... The U.S. Southwest; was planned out to Divided all Northern Mexicans, and thus conquering them was so easy...Puerto Rico, The Panama Channel; when Panama was part of Colombia, a " Guerrilla" was also Put by the C.I.A. and thus Dividing them for the building of " The Panama Channel " and so many more Conspiracies, Cover - ups, and Complots By The C.I.A., the F.B.I.,the O.S.I.[ the office of special investigations - " THE MEN IN BLACK " ] Even by the ELITE Texas Rangers and the U.S. Marshalls !!!
Wow, is it fair to say the US is forever, messing in other countries.???
Eliot, I hope you don't mind, but Commish, Jerry PRep. Is having a meeting on Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 6 to 8 pm.
Dist 4 residents, please attend, this is in Harlingen, Texas.
eliot, someone wrote a post in myleadernews.com, it relates to Jerry's blog and Tony's blog, it is kind of crude, but it's comment number 20 on the Korry Marra, statement. Kind of interesting. The post was written, by someone who calls himself, the Red Barron.
Eliot, why is the Tribune so quiet?? Mourning, the funeral of Sister Benitez.
Eliot, Jr. Bonner, looks like he is ready to kick the bucket. Damn he looks old, I am surprise he can even type on a computer. He looks like a ranch hand, or they say here in South Tex. Common labor.
No offense Mr. Bonner, but you look the opposite to Brother Jonesy.
Leave Jr. Bonner alone, he hasn't eaten in about a week, he probably likes to drink cheap whiskey.
He looks, creepy, but then, so did Juan Jones, I mean the former Juan Jones, who was messing around with prostis in Matamoros. And he got horse whipped, and then killed.
Juan looked like a thug, and no one complained.
Junior Bonner look's like a character of the, "Night of the living dead". Sorry Jr.
