McALLEN, Texas - The family of former Tribune writer Ron Mexico has filed a massive, multi-million-dollar lawsuit against this publication, laying responsibility for the writer's death squarely on the lap of then-Editor Patrick Alcatraz and his decision to fire Ron - action the family alleges forced Mexico to travel to Amsterdam, where he was viciously murdered days later.
"Everybody knows Patrick pushed Ron into leaving," said Ron Mexico, Jr. in releasing a statement about a $135 million legal claim his family is lodging against The Tribune and its parent company, The Foundation. "And now that Patrick has cavalierly taken up with Dad's ex-wife, well, you can understand the family's anger. Dad loved Patrick and they were friends. But a friend does not move-in on a widow only weeks after a death. He and my ex-stepmom, Elaine Benitez, are having the time of their lives shacking-up in Panama, is what I've been reading. Patrick will get his, that's for sure."
A spokeswoman for The Tribune issued this comment: "Ron Mexico was a valuable asset when he worked for The Tribune. We shall remember his contributions. But The Tribune did not murder Ron."
According to police in Amsterdam, Ron was attacked and repeatedly knifed before being shot multiple times. He died sprawled half-on and half-off a sidewalk in the city's infamous Red Light District. At the time, Elaine Benitez had left him to begin a tour of South America with a circus as part of an acrobatic act.
Efforts to reach her today in her native country of Panama were not successful. A woman working the registration desk at the fancy hotel where Patrick Alcatraz is staying in Panama City said the former editor had left word that he'd be "checking out the jungles with Ms. Benitez."
Asked how the family arrived at the $135 million figure as compensation for Ron Mexico's death, his son said: "What's a life worth to you, Goddammit? We'll gladly double it and still feel cheated. The Tribune will pay. I can tell you that."
Tribune Editor Juan Jones said Ron Mexico, Jr. is being suspended pending resolution of the case.
"That decision comes from upstairs," Jones told story-hungry reporters outside his office. "I'm the editor, not the legal counsel for the company."...

Sure am glad, that Alcatraz is getting what he deserves, a two timing charlatan, who begins screwing the widow of a friend one month after getting the knifing of his life, obviously, he wasn't much of a friend if he was carrying on with a charming lady as Ms. Benitez. I believe this was happening before old Ron, left to Amsterdam.
Granted going to Red light district was not the answer.
either.
Patrick, you can't run an hide, show your face like a man. Face up to your sleazy way of life.
Man up, don't run and hide.
The gall to be dedicating songs to a grieving woman, your former editor is taking advantage of a hurt woman. You sleazy fox, hiding in the hills of Panama isn't going to help you. Sooner or later, you have to return to Brownsville or McAllen and you will feel the wrath of the courts.
Brother Jonesy:...It must be noted that Ron Mexico had been dead for days by the time Elaine and Patrick slept together. Grieving is a personal thing. Some grieve for years; some grieve until the feeling is gone. Patrick Alcatraz is human, and he should get the benefit of the doubt... - Editor
You mean to tell me, Patrick was grieving with the Lovely Benitez. He was lining her up, and was setting her to fullfill his lust for the grieving woman.
We understand he is human, we are all humans but we don't use the opportunity of a poor defenseless female, who is traumatized by a trajic death of her partner in life.
Juan Jones, quit making excuses for Mr. Sleaze, you and I know he did wrong.
Juan Jones, your side bar says, says Benites is already choosing her wedding song.
Is it possible these two finks conspired to do away with Ron Mexico???
I have reasons to believe they are both in cohoots. She is no grieving woman, she is a fox just like him. Birds of a feather stick together.
Brother Jonesy:...You're thinking too much. Patrick Alcatraz and Elaine Benitez are merely doing their life impulse. Ron Mexico is dead. We're told the wedding will be a brief ceremony. Patrick and Elaine will then fly back to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, so that Elaine can sell the home and furniture she and Ron Mexico enjoyed when he was alive. After that, we've also heard, the two lovebirds plan to go to Vegas for their honeymoon... - Editor
Personally I think we are all way too involved with Patrick and Elaine's love life and that includes you too, Juan Jones. How come you are so well informed as to when they first slept together and where they are going on their honeymoon? Are there no decent tele-novelas going on right now that we feel compelled to keep the goings on of these two under the microscope? Maybe we need to inject some romance in our own lives so that they become interesting enough to keep our attention focused on our own business. Juan, enough of your peeping-tom, gossip. You are bringing out the worst in your readers. Let Elaine and Patrick make their mistakes in private. M
ANONYMOUS M:...You should know - but how could you? - that Ron Mexico, Jr. has submitted a proposal that would have him cover Patrick & Elaine's wedding for the Tribune. We are considering the offer, although a big obstacle is Ron, Jr.'s trip-expense projections. He wishes to stay at a 5-star hotel and be approved for an amount of booze we seriously question. But we'll see... - Editor
Damn, Juan so Ron Jr. wants to be the best man??? What is wrong with the Tribune, Alcatraz has gone bananas, as has Benitez and Now Ron Jr. in the mix to.
Brother Jonesy, is totally confused, I give up, Hellllppppp, someone please help me with my sanity, the management of the Tribune has totally messed my wany of thinking,, royally. I need Heelllppppppp!!!!!!!!!1
I am Just going tonigth to
" STILLETTOS " to get a nice sexy - mucho buena caliente Mais, I meant,a lovely nice decent woman... See You Later Gators... ay los wacho !!!
A descent woman at the girlie bar, you have to be kidding yourself, You better quit trying to be like Ron Mexico, he got his butt stabbed and shot in some whore town in Amsterdamn.
You have been corrupted by Alcatraz life style, that of a womanizer. That my good man is going to get you in mucho problemos. Enjoy your night,
BROTHER JONESY:...(1.)No, Ron Mexico, Jr. is not going to Panama to be Patrick Alcatraz's "Best Man;" he is going to cover the wedding, to write about it. He has been approved for booze expenses not to exceed $200-a-day, so we'll see how good of a job he does. (2.) EL CHACHALACO:...Good luck! (3.) RORI:...Patrick Alcatraz has his good qualities. Don't write him off so fast... - Editor
Alcatraz, only quality is that of chasing skirts, to add to insult, he married his friend widow, has her step son writing about the wedding, approve a tab, for the alcholic Ron Jr. as if he needed one.
Is hiding his skin in Panama, for whatever reasons, maybe the family of Ron Sr. want to whip his behind, and he is hiding. Which I think it is rightfully so.
