AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

At The Tribune, Romance Blooms & Word Comes Of A Late-Night Dinner Date In McAllen...

By RICARDO KLEMENT
Staff Writer

McALLEN, Texas - You'd have to know about Life in the American Newsroom. You'd have to know something about how romance just crawls through such environments to understand the scene at The Tribune this morning, when reporter Rannah O'Donnell arrived to begin her second stint at the online publication.

Just watching Editor Patrick Alcatraz scoping-out Rannah said it all (see photo above). We are welcoming more than just a much-needed religion writer; she will be his pet. Undoubtedly, there will be sexual fireworks around here. For sure.

This is not one of our usual news stories, but Alcatraz is one of those picky guys who believes a news organization should be transparent - even if it means the staff is thrown into the mix. O'Donnell was here earlier this year, back when Alcatraz began dating former Tribune writer Ron Mexico's widow following Mexico's vicious murder in Amsterdam. Some staffers said Alcatraz was crazy to choose Elaine Benitez over Rannah, but perhaps he is right about his Even-Steven approach to life. Benitez was gunned down in Panama by Ron Mexico's angry son, who did not fancy seeing Alcatraz having his ex-step-mom in the sack. Alcatraz was not hurt in the wild shooting. Ron Mexico, Jr. remains in solitary confinement inside a roach-infested Panamanian prison while awaiting trial.

The word in the Newsroom this afternoon is that Rannah told someone who told someone else that she and Patrick Alcatraz are dining-out in McAllen later tonight...

So playing footsie at the tribune is the latest fad. Patrick, bring Eliot back.
One of the best chief editors for the Tribune.

Patrick, you are so morally afflicted with free food issues, what are you going to do if Rannah refuses to let you pay for her dinner on the grounds that a reporter should never accept a free meal? And while we're on the subject of food, how come your male reporters (the late Ron Mexico Sr, Patrick Alcatraz eating his chips and salsa, the gaunt Jr Bonner, the lupine Ricardo Klement) all look like they haven't eaten a good square meal in a month of Sundays and yet you post pictures of very "healthy" female models. As for Eliot, his last name speaks to his eating obsession. Is there some sort of sexist slant going on here? Even your comment posters are concerned, especially Sessi. It's time you considered equal opportunity anorexia. M.

ANONYMOUS M:...I was recently characterized as being among the "thin" inhabitants of this God-awful world. It upset me, 'cause I learned early-on that the opposite went to gluttony (my Altar Boy days). The well-fed people of the world will soon realize that the planet cannot feed 7 billion people, twice as many as it had as recently as 45 years ago. I wonder how the "non-Thins" will do when they are asked to eat one instead of six tamales for dinner. As for your other comments about the women we note here, well, beauty goes to the eye, and that is lapped on women. Men are not pretty or beautiful. Handsome is as far as men go, although those Gays are a strange lot... - Editor

That Ranna looks better and better all the time.
I think that girl that was hanging out with Jr. will be fair game. Just thinking, before, I drink my bruskies. She looks mighty fine.
And I don't smoke buglers, or drink cheap lone star,

BROTHER JONESY:...Odd that you mention Sissy Estrada, Junior Bonner's girlfriend. She visited The Tribune yesterday afternoon and spent two hours meeting with me on a variety of matters, including Junior's last paycheck. She told me she'll be sticking around, which sounded good to me, yeah... - Editor

That Mare looks might good for a ride, the kind I like to tame. Jr. Bonner, your loss is another mans gain. Sorry Brother, but game is game, Sissy Estrada can shine my boots anytime of the week, day or night.
