AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

Death In A Hellhole: Former Tribune Editor Juan Jones Murdered In Matamoros...

By JUNIOR BONNER
Staff Writer

MATAMOROS, Mexico - The big-hearted cat just never fell-in with life in the Valley. Juan Jones was at odds with the local mess, and, yesterday afternoon, it cost him his life.

The former editor of The Tribune was shot and killed as he left a government hospital a day after being admitted following a vicious beating he received at a local nighclub. Police here said Juan, a native of Houston, died at the scene, shot as many as twelve times by three men witnesses said accosted him while shouting a stream of profanities in Spanish.

It had been a day earlier that Juan Jones, 33, partied hard inside a popular Matamoros nightclub with a pretty Hispanic woman in a flowery, nylon dress, seemingly having a grand time dancing and boozing. As in most westerns and movies about the heartless Mexican drug trade, some in the crowd, however, did not take kindly to Juan kissing and fondling the woman in their presence. According to witnesses, three Mexican men jumped Juan and administered a whipping that left him with broken ribs and cracked skull.

He is survived by a sister and four brothers.

"It is the worst news of the month," said Tribune Editor Eliot Elcomedor. "No one is born to die in Matamoros, not in that pitiful hellhole better suited for snakes, scorpions, spiders and vultures. We are saddened, yes."

Juan Jones had been in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas barely a month...

Is there some subliminal message here about running off to foreign places in pursuit of sex and ending up beaten, stabbed, and shot. First Ron Mexico Sr in Amsterdam, now Juan Jones in Matamoros. Patrick better get the hell out of Panama if he wants to live long. Pretty soon all the generic viagra shoppers are going to be so scared of travel and sex that the market is going to dry up and then the cartels will have to start pushing it. Wild-eyed, desparate geezers will be out trolling street-corners for the viagra pushers but it will be too dangerous to venture more than a block or two. It's the end of the world as we know it. M.

Well what did he expect, if he is hanging at those dippy bars, probably like Ron Mexico Sr. at the red lights districts. I hate to sound heartless, but he deserved the beating, (not the shooting) you don't mess around with the cartel's women. In fact, you don't mess around with the Cartels, period.
Juan Jones, rest in peace, (I hope you didn't leave a pretty wife behind, or Patrick Alctraz will be circling the wagons, if he wasn't doing it already, or he has done it.)
Mr. Comedor, will you show a picture of the coffin of Mr. Juan Jones. No pictures of the wife and girlfriends, please.

Not on this life time, you fool, Brother Jonesy, needs more than Viagra, he needs is a make over.
I would rather take a beating like the former Editor of the Tribune than to be seen next to you. Juan Jones, didn't mean to be sacarstic, while his family mourns.

Hay 'Pos Pobrecito El Juanito Jones, esto le pasa por andar de Pinche Cabron Caliente en mi Matamoros querido. Actually, the educated, cultured and art Savvy people of Matamoros, are more traveled, awaken and global sharp, than most shy, lack- of - character and full of an inferiority Complex from Rancheritos of the Remote , Isolated and uncultered individuals from The Rancho Grande Valley - A Federal Indian reservation and Cast Outs Refuge !!!

Dr. Cerebro:...Of course, you are partially correct. Matamoros no doubt has its cultured best side. It's just too bad that the drug problem only gets worse by the day. The U.S.-Mexico border - both sides - is an overflowing outhouse, land so abused that to call it land is a joke... - Editor
