HARLINGEN, Texas - Paul Menzies, the previous Harlingen Planning and Zoning director, would often say that the population of Harlingen stood at more than 79,000 residents. The true numbers revealed in the 2010 Federal Census put Harlingen's population at 65,289, an increase of almost 7,000 during the last 10 years, but well-short of the Menzies estimate.
Mayor Chris Boswell has often used the Menzies number - 79,000 - in official presentations, and that number was well over a 14,000 population difference. I knew the true numbers and so did he, but he kept on deceiving the public.
Other facts revealed by the government survey include these: 73.1 percent of the Harlingen population has a high school diploma, 18.9 percent has earned a college bachelor’s degree, and, in the ethnic breakdown, the city counts on 46,897 Hispanics, which represents 74 percent of the city's population.
The biggest news is that Harlingen has been dethroned as the number three largest city in the Rio Grande Valley. It is no longer Number 3; it is now Number 6.
In Harlingen, Mayor Boswell was unable to annex the two big colonias located on the west side of town, which would have given the city about a 3,000-plus advantage. His words following the city's failure to annex them were something to the effect that we needed to help these people by annexing them. The plan failed.
It's always a numbers game with the feds, and, now, it seems we've lost a considerable amount of future government grants. Still, the census data shows that Harlingen gained 7,725 new residents...

Kermit, Rubio might be called a lot of things, but he does exposes corruption in local politics. Ofcourse, he will always get critcism, because some people just don't like him. But he is a concious man. And he is one big guy, who called out chapaneco. In a public setting.
One of these days the citizens are going to wake up and realize how the rich, got richer and the poor tax payer got poorer. One of these days!!!

Chapa is a crybaby. Joe Rubio called him out at a city commission, said Tony was an embarrassment to the city, and Chapa just took it. He's a freakin' wimp. short, too.

Tony Chapa has no idea how much people in his town hate him. maybe that's why he won't go out anymore. he doesn't go to the city meetings, because he knows Big Dawg Rubio will slap him side the head if Tony stands up and tickles Rubio on the knees. Chapa is un Nada, a loser and a sonso.
He is blogging in myleadernews.com because no one blogs on his pathetic web-site. Some blogger Rocky Raccon, called him a dork. He isn't a dork, he is a pendejo, que no vale tres cacahuates, probably swam the river. Viejo cabesa de tornillo.
T/C was acting tough on his blog today, calling the big dawg all kinds of things. He says, he is going to file a complaint against him and another blogger for spamming him.
He is trying to get attention. By reporting some numbers he probably fixed to make is dorky blog look good. But no dice, I think he has lost it.
By the way t/c now blogs more on my leadernews than myharlingennew. There is no surprise there, after all only t/c and his girlfriends are blogging at his blog.
Glad to read, that don't ask don't tell finally made it through the legislative process. This is America, where we believe in: Live and let live, and what people do is no ones business, period.
So what's this I hear that Kino Flores will get his pension after he lives his post. And why is this convicted felon still drawing a salary.
I hear legislation is being introduced to stop this type of abuse.

Tony chapa is saying he gets more than 100 hits a day. I notice The Tribune gets more than twice as many. Chapa's blog is dead in gthe water. Loser. short and stupid.

I visited his blog the other night, and the author of article was correct. He just strings out some crappy stuff, and like smearing mud, he hopes it sticks.
