BROWNSVILLE, TX - Spelling never has been a strength for anyone in this pinche town. There was that gente at that fried chicken joint on the highway posting this on its marquee last week: Now Hireing. And there were those obreros at that llantera on E. Boca Chica Boulevard that offered tire alighments. Geez, Louise. Oh, and how about today's Brownsville Herald?
There's that story by periodista Emma Perez-Trevino, shown in photo above, writing about some Libertarian Party appointment. Well, it reads like this on the newspaper's website: Libertarian Ben Neece has taken the reigns of the Cameron County Libertarian Party, highlighting an alternate choice amid what he said is an increasing discontent of Democrats and Republicans with their parties.
He has taken the "reigns" writes Perez-Trevino, reportedly the daily's crack reporter. The reigns! Reins maybe, Emma?
Que wild. May we suggest that Emma strike out for all-out Spanglish. Neece tomo la rienda, eh? Que fiebre! Ay, amor, amor...mi cabeza se estrella. Si, mejor mejora Mejoral!
Sounds much better, and the imagery fits the culture, well, like a guante...

Ron, you ought to read the Valley Morning Star, speaking about mispelled wording.
Hey, welcome to the Mexican Texas border, where bad grammar and mispelled words are the soup of the day.
We suppose that if you accept an inferior way of doing anything - manner of language included - then you deserve the very inferior life you forever crow about. Welcome to the Wasteland....- Editor
here are my two cents. We are no different than Jews or Blacks. What is Goy in Jewish or booty in afro? Guey is Goy or what? anyone know.
Emma, what's with the hat, Juanito Montoya wears a hat to, I know they are in style. But you look better without one.
I forgive you, we all make mistakes. Carry on,
Intriguing questions, indeed. Perhaps one of our sentient readers can answer them. We have our opinion on slang, but that's all it is - a rather harsh opinion... - Editor
Patrick, why are you so hard on emma trvino, and Juan Montoya's black outfit, wait Emma is wearing one to. Could there be connection, of course not, it's just conjecture.
Okay, Patrick, why has the most interesting man in town being so quiet. It's only Thursday night, the week-end starts tomorrow, I get it.
I have one big question for the Editor of this is fine blog, are you associated with the Brownsville Herald???
There is nothing wrong, if you are, I am just wondering, well have to go and work and earn a living.
I saw Emma Trevino on television some time back doing interviews, she did pretty well.
So lets don't be to hard on the poor gal, she like me has to work somewhere.
Note: we're not hard on anyone, at least not as we define the word. We could be. (2.) The hat fetish with Emma and Juan is a personal thing. Eh...we've never been moved by headwear except when in Europe in winter. To wear a hat in the RGV perhaps is a good idea during the summer scorch, but other than that, well, it's a bit silly - likely more a stab at fashion than utility. (3.) We are not affiliated with The Brownsville Herald, no...- Editor
Now, now, by your comments, the staff of this blog are worldly individuals.
Hey we have a few here and there. But Eamma and Mr. Montoya are locals, and the culture down here runs deep.
Personally, I like hats used by the Southern Belles down in Kentucky, Tennessee, or places like those.
Let's remember, we are in Texas.
What, you single us out for no other reason than because we are not locals? That's absurd, and we know you know it. The culture in town does run deep, only that does not make it a good culture. Much is good about life in Brownsville, and much, much is bad. You know that, as well... - Editor
What is this??? El rocinante is saying dp-m was romantically involved with cow girl emma t.
She is old enough to be his mother.
I hope this rumor is false, if not your credibility is in the dumps.
No, that's not what El Rocinante is saying. Put the beer down, Don Francisco, and read it once more. El Roci tied our writer Ron Mexico, not DP-M, to Emma. We've never pressed Ron for details of such a connection, so we cannot confirm or deny El Rocinante's reporting... - Editor
Wow, a love affair, can't be he appears to be kind of young. Emma, could be his grandmother, but then you never know, Don Panhco, don't believe el rosinante, they write a lot of crap.
I find some of their articles kind of crazy. I think is pure soft porn, or at least that is what a former journalist from harlingen called them sometime back.
Anony, I have not idea what Goy is!!!!Guey is an ox,in Spanish, it could be a mispelled word.
Don Pancho, put the beer down and give us some help.
On Goy: It's a Jewish term, so perhaps one of our Jewish readers can help with giving us a definition... - Editor
The word "Goy" is define as: A person of religion other tnan Jewish.
Have to go to work, I see the blog as to quiet this morning. DP-M get the whip out and put your staff to work. This blog should be up 24-7, no excuses.
We do but what we can. (2) Thanks for defining the word GOY for us. (3.) We are feeling somewhat provoked, so keep an eye out for our future postings... - Editor
Is it true that Cow Poke Emma T. wants to leave the B Herald?? I heard it through the grapevine.
We have no information on the personnel doings at The Brownsville Herald. Like all news organizations, it absolutely is going through tough economic times. We wish it the best, because it is needed. Like many smalltown dailies, it suffers its pains. Yet, the alternative - no newspaper or advocacy Blogs - would not serve the whole... - Editor
Grand Ma Emma, leaving, where all the local newspapers are going broke, I know the VMS, filed chapter 11, and I think the Brownsville Herald is tied into the Star. Go figure!!!
Still, we need Emma, she is like a fixture at the Herald, besides that Editor, is like the one at the Valley Morning Star, afraid to write titillating articles about politicos.
Advertising is the oxygen of every newspaper across the world. In Brownsville, advertising is hard to find. The Brownsville Herald ans its sister papers in Harlingen and McAllen are owned by California-based Freedom Communications, Inc. The company filed for bankruptcy last year and is said to be on the verge of overcoming its many debts. In its filing with federal bankruptcy court, Freedom sought relief amounting to an estimated $350 million off a debt of $700 million, or so. For a company steeped in the Libertarian philosophy (less government is better), it made good use of the government courts...- Editor
Emma, oh sweet Emma, you look so serious, come, come, my dear life isn't all that bad.
Okay, I have never worked in a newspaper enviroment, but it can't be all that bad.
Look at dp-m, he is enjoing life to its fullest, you should to. Cheer up my dear.
DP-M is a wealthy man, with no worries what's so ever, he is a "worldly" man as someone wrote on a previews post.
There is a rrun rrun going that things aren't going well at the Brownsville Herald. That could be the reason, cow girl Emma looks kind of gloomy.
Let me say this, if you all read the Valley Morning Star, like we do here in Harlingen, the Herald is 200 times better, that should tell the readers of this blog something.
Yep, the Brownsville Herald is better than the Valley Morning Star but not as good as the Corpus Christi Caller -Times, which is not as good as The Houston Chronicle, which is not as good as The Dallas Morning News, which is not as good as The Los Angeles Times, which is not as good as the Boston Globe, which is not as good as The New York Times. There, that's the Journalism hierarchy. Now you know... - Editor
I stand corrected.
The blogs are better than some of the local newspapers, the morning star sucks, they are at the level of the bargain book.
The editorials are horrible, the articles are reprints from someone else. They aren't even original, and the reporting on events at city hall are slanted.
I don't know who the editor is, but he needs a job elsewhere.
