AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

POLL: Cameron Co. Judge Cascos Expected To Slide Into Office...

By JUAN MO-TIME
Staff Writer

BROWNSVILLE, TX - A recent poll undertaken by this news outlet has incumbent Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos comfortably ahead of any would-be challenger. He faces voter approval in November, although his opponent in that race will not be decided until mid-April, when Democrats Eddie Trevino and John Wood resolve their run-off differences.

"Cascos is so far ahead of those other two that it appears contest is the wrong word for this fight," said one resident. "This is more like a ballgame that ends in the first inning. It is a game where Cascos is pitching a no-hitter and both Trevino and Wood have fanned miserably every at-bat."

Trevino was on the stump in San Benito yesterday, telling anyone within earshot that his campaign is flowing happy, like the passive waters of the nearby Rio Grande. Indeed, Trevino got a few rounds of applause at the gathering, held at Vickie's Restaurant, an eatery roughly 1,500 miles southwest of New York City.

In our poll, Cascos had a 2-1 margin of victory over Trevino, the former mayor of Brownsville. In a fight against Wood, Cascos had him almost 9-to-1, a complete and utter ass-kicking rivaled only by the whipping Muhammad Ali delivered on one Oscar "Ringo" Bonavena. Wood is presumably campaigning, but he has not taken to the Chicken Leg Circuit favored by Trevino.

For the Lost Mexican Republican Cascos, the election may be one of those enjoyed only by politicians actually liked by voters. A sublime man with the looks more of a sympathetic Food Stamps office bureaucrat than a county's leader, Cascos has said little lately...

Brother Mo-time, cut the baloney out, this race is far from over.
The real fight starts around Sept, and then we will see if Mr. Cascos can run on his record of accomplihments.(I just remember his only record is that he is a republican.)
You and Alcaraz, have a dislike for everybody's main man, Eddie Trevino, there is saying in South Texas that says: it isn't over untill the fat lady sings, and she hasn't started yet.

We have no "dislike" for any candidate. That would simply be wrong. But we do allow ourselves to form an opinion. As for the fat lady singing, well, we suspect there indeed is tremendous number of talented "full-bodied" women capable of performing...- Editor

my $2 bet: Cascos to win.

Patrick Alcatraz said...

Could be, Anon. He's in the race, so you're already ahead of the game. But $2?... - Editor

The fat lady may not be singing, but she's humming awfully loud. Cascos will TKO Wood in 3 & Trevino in 8.

Anonymous: That's how we see it, too. Good read. But what tune is she humming, Las Golondrinas?... - Editor

Lla se van las Golondrinas along with Cascos and all his little cronies.
Don't count your chickens yet, I say it goes to the wire, and Eddie scores the nock-out punch on the last month.

Well, Don Pancho, perhaps you are wise to wait on the outcome. Who knows, eh? Maybe Trevino will launch his massive Politiqueras force and swamp Cascos on the beaches of South Padre Island. Is SPI in Cameron County? We're drawing a blank for some reason. Must be this drinking weekend in McAllen, the rising Gomorrah of the Rio Grande Valley... - Editor

Of Course SPI is in the County, and they to will vote for Ed Trevino, unless the voters are too busy watching the bikinis.
Just to let you know, that I will be helping one incumbnent commissioner running for re-lection and mayoral and city commissioner candidates as well.
In the city known as the Gem of the desert, "Harlingen".
Your blog will get a rest, from my commentaries.
I truly enjoy participating on your forum. But I must work hard and commit resources so that positive changes can occur in our city. So if you don't hear from me for the next 50 days. I just left temporarily. Enjoy the Valley.

Patrick Alcatraz said...

50 days, it is. And good luck with your candidates. We got more than enough notes on SPI being in Cameron County. Now, where in God's name is someplace called Rio Hondo? Couldn't find it on my map. Is it also in the county? What is it known for?... - Editor

Well, now that sounds like a great place for our office. We're looking to move to some county outpost, into, say, an abandoned airport hangar. A friend tells us Moore Field north of Mission (Hidalgo County) may be our best bet... - Editor

Thats in Hidalgo County. Cameron county goes past la feria texas. You guys are moving ou in the stikcs. Didn't they have a fire at that place sometime back. Thats an old air force base, used during world war 11. YOu guys are going bckwards not forward.
What happen the rent to hi???

Patrick Alcatraz said...

No, rents in the RGV are incredibly low. We're just out for some unique space. A houseboat in the Laguna Madre would do the trick. Something about having a line out into the water; that sort of stuff... - Editor

That old air base is passed mission tx, somewhere, around the city of alton.
Out in the water, what are you guys smoking???
To much beer, to much wine, that sounds like the herald-tribune blog spot, problem.
RAn out of women in brownsville?? those girls from Rio Grande, La joya are pretty descent looking chicks. A lot of Spaniard and Irish blood mix with tex mex blood, a good combination, doesn't get better than that.

Patrick Alcatraz said...

Are you criticizing or praising us? Hard to tell. Your comment is half-good and half-bad. But you're all-right about the women of the western end of the Valley being more, ah, attractive. (2.) Too much wine? Could be. Beer? Never!... - Editor
