AMERIQUE:

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: It is the unspoken statistic, but it is as real as anything to do with the lingering U.S. war efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to the military, 1,800 American servicemen have killed themselves since the initial invasion of Baghdad. That is in addition to the more than 4,000 who died in battle. This week, families of the soldiers who committed suicide asked President Barack Obama to change the government policy of not forwarding letters of appreciation to mothers and fathers of these servicemen. By week's end, the White House had reversed the policy and agreed that such letters are needed, as well... - Eduardo Paz-Martinez, Editor of The Tribune

EH, BATO!: Killer Of Bun Deliveryman Throws Himself At Mercy Of English...

By RICARDO KLEMENT
Staff Writer

BROWNSVILLE, TX - A local man accused of killing a crooked bun deliveryman was sentenced to 45 years in prison yesterday, but not before he annoyed the judge for more than an hour. It was, said his attorney, "a classic case of the dumb not knowing the meaning of the word."

And that is exactly what angered the judge.

When asked if he had problems with substance abuse, defendant Juan "El Pato" Jimenez said: "What is substance?"

When told he would be going directly to prison without the chance for parole, Jimenez began looking around like a fool before asking the judge, somewhat loudly, "Eh, parol? Que es parol?"

As he was being walked out by sheriff's deputies, the goofy-looking prisoner was heard to say, "Where am I, ese?"

Jimenez was arrested earlier this year after a month-long manhunt following what police said was the cruel, merciless killing of bun deliveryman Henry "La Concha" De la Rosa. Authorities told reporters at the time of the murder that De La Rosa was selling buns to the Black Market, specifically operators of low-end burger joints. At the time, Jimenez owned Lonches y Legumbres - a flea market snack stand serviced by the victim.

A real looser, get rid of all the flea markets.

Aye, on that. Our feeling is that every new flea market that sprouts once more labels the Rio Grande Valley a Mexico satellite. Yet, politicians, who could pass health ordinances outlawing these messes, sit back and do nothing. Flea markets are a stain on civilization. Is there no MERVYN'S Dept. Store in Brownsville?...- Editor

DP-M is one of those men lucky with the ladies. Perhaps that's where all the jealousy is born, only whoever really knows about the Brownsville brain? (2) Marina's pose is very much her personality. She's a fighter in every sense of the word, in every room of the house...- Editor
